What We Believe
A short, honest statement about our principles, our process, and the business that funds it.
We Believe
- Real experience beats professional expertise — but both together are unbeatable. Our authors are real moms who use the products they review, and every review is audited by an editor with twenty years of industry experience.
- A stroller is not a status symbol. It's a tool for getting through your day. We don't recommend expensive products because they're expensive. We recommend them if they're actually worth the money.
- Every parent deserves honest recommendations, regardless of budget. We cover strollers from $150 to $1,500, and we tell you clearly what you get at each price point.
- Reviews should be written by people who actually use the product. Not for a week — for months, or years. Our long-term test strollers have been tracked for three years.
- It's okay to care about how a stroller looks. Aesthetics are not superficial — they're the difference between a tool you tolerate and a tool you love. We test color accuracy, material quality, and how strollers photograph.
- Measured data beats marketing claims. If a manufacturer says a stroller weighs 12 lbs, we put it on a kitchen scale. If it comes in at 14, we say so.
We Oppose
- Reviews written by people who've never pushed a stroller in real life. Too many parenting sites are written by editors who test a stroller for an afternoon and publish a review. That's not testing.
- "Sponsored" reviews disguised as independent ones. If we take money from a brand, it's disclosed. Period.
- The idea that more expensive always means better. Some premium strollers are worth it. Many aren't. Our reviews tell the difference.
- Vague verdicts. "It depends" is not a recommendation. Every review ends with a clear winner and specific scenarios for who should buy what.
Our Promise
- Every stroller we recommend, we've used. For months, or years. Not for an afternoon.
- Every score we give, we can explain. Our 10-dimension methodology is public. If you disagree with a score, you can see exactly what it's based on.
- Every article we publish, we update. Every review has a "last updated" date. We check quarterly.
- Every link we share, we verify. All affiliate links are periodically checked for validity and updated pricing.
- Every mistake we make, we correct. When we're wrong, we publish a correction. When we change our minds about a product, we say so.
How We Make Money
We earn commissions when you buy through our links. Most of our commissions come from Amazon Associates (typically 3-5% of the purchase price) and occasionally from direct brand partnerships. We may also earn revenue from display advertising in the future.
This doesn't change our recommendations. If a stroller isn't good enough, we say so, and we don't link to it. We've turned down thousands of dollars in commissions by being honest about what not to buy.
Our editorial team is completely separated from our business operations. The people who write our reviews don't know how much money a specific link generates. The people who track our revenue don't influence editorial decisions.
The Tammi Reynolds Legacy
Our Smart Baby had a previous life, from 2004 to 2018. One of its early contributors was Tammi Reynolds, a writer who published over 200 articles on parenting and early childhood development. We preserve her legacy on our contributor archive page. The current site is different from her version — different niche, different team, different technology. But we share one value with her work: honest, first-hand experience over generic advice.
Editorial Independence
If you're ever concerned that a recommendation was influenced by money, tell us. Email hello@oursmartbaby.com. We take these concerns seriously and will investigate any specific claim.
